Join the SETS Foundation to learn about humanity's history and usage of clay and pottery techniques. Make your own pot with air dry clay!

Clay pottery hasn't been in use as long as other lithic tools but nevertheless, it comes with a long and varied history and played a critical role in how early humans both stored and prepared food. The earliest documented pottery hails from China and can be dated to about twenty thousand years ago.

In this program, we will be examining samples of pottery shards from Florida and other Southern states that can range in age from a thousand to four thousand years old, as well as several complete pots. You'll be shown some traditional sculpting and shaping techniques that you'll then use to build your very own clay pot to take home!

Seating is limited and registration is required. Please register with the online calendar, in person, or by calling us at (352) 726-2357.
