From May to September 1864, Union General William T. Sherman led his forces on a strategic push through northern Georgia, clashing with Confederate armies in a series of battles that ultimately culminated in the capture of Atlanta. This victory not only crippled the Confederacy’s infrastructure and morale, but also played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the 1864 presidential election.
Through historical maps, firsthand accounts, and vivid storytelling, this presentation will trace the major battles, key commanders, and the human experiences behind the campaign. Attendees will learn how geography, logistics, and leadership decisions shaped the course of the conflict and why Atlanta’s fall marked a decisive turning point in the war. Attendees will also see authentic uniforms and equipment that the soldiers wore and carried.
